Before reaching Mount Kailash, he met Shiva’s vehicle Nandi on the way.
Nandi bowed down to Ravana. But Ravana didn’t think it appropriate to give any answer to Nandi in arrogance. After this Nandi spoke politely to Ravana. But Ravana insulted Nandi. Ravana arrogantly said that he has come to take Lord Shiva to Lanka. Nandi said, no one can take Lord Shiva anywhere against his will. Ravana was very proud of his strength. He said to Nandi, if Shivji does not agree, then I will pick up the entire Mount Kailash.

Here Shivji sitting on Mount Kailash was watching everything. Ravana put his one hand under the rock to lift Mount Kailash and in the meantime Kailash started moving. When Ravana stuck his whole hand under the rock of Mount Kailash, Shivji pressed Kailash with his toe. Due to this Ravana’s hand got stuck under the mountain.
Seeing all this Shivji was sitting on his seat smiling without any reason. Ravana realized his mistake. At the same time, Ravana composed Shiv Tandav Stotram to please Shiva, listening to which Shiva freed Ravana.
